Pablo Javier Almaguer is the Senior Attorney Fellow at Texas Immigration Law Council (“TxILC), where he is overseeing the newly created Medical Legal Partnership between Texas A&M Law School and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. TxILC’s core values center on building broad coalitions that include diverse allies while prioritizing the voices and self-determination of immigrants and refugees themselves. His work at TxILC is part of the Economic Justice Initiative, a moonshot program providing civil legal services to low-income immigrant Texans, with the purpose of increasing access to justice through innovative strategies, technology, and empowerment of non-attorney legal workers.
Before his work at TxILC, Pablo worked for 27 years with the largest legal services provider in Texas and gained extensive trial court experience in the areas of family law and employment discrimination/labor law. He has obtained favorable verdicts or settlements for his clients in both state and federal courts and has been recognized as a mentor to several generations of legal services attorneys throughout Texas.
Pablo obtained his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1994 and subsequently earned his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1997. In 2017, he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Education from Wheelock College for his advocacy on behalf of women, children, and families. In 2008, Pablo became the first legal services attorney to serve on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, and in 2010, was elected as their Chair. He also served on the Commission for Lawyer Discipline (2012-2018), the Supreme Court of Texas' Grievance Oversight Committee (2020-2023), and is currently serving in his second three-year term as a Trustee on the Board of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics.
