Texas Center for Legal Ethics Announces 2026 Pope Award Winner
The Texas Center for Legal Ethics is proud to announce that Marcy Hogan Greer will receive the 2026 Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award.
Each year, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics presents the Pope Award to an appellate attorney or appellate judge who epitomizes the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. The Pope Award is named for former Supreme Court of Texas Chief Justice Jack Pope, one of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics’ founders and the first individual to receive the award in 2009.
An acclaimed attorney, Greer is the managing partner at Alexander Dubose & Jefferson. She is recognized for her work in federal and state trial and appellate courts throughout the country. Among other accolades, she received the 2021 Gregory S. Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer Award from the Texas Bar Foundation, the 2022 Pro Bono/Community Service Award from the University of Houston Law Center Alumni Association, and the 2024 Distinguished Lawyer Award from the Austin Bar Foundation.
“Chief Justice Jack Pope represented the highest ideals of the Texas legal profession: excellence, respect for others, and devotion to the rule of law,” said former Supreme Court of Texas Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson. “Marcy Hogan Greer embodies those same ideals every day.”
“Having spent much of my life observing lawyers and judges at their best, I have come to appreciate the qualities that distinguish the truly exceptional,” said Jefferson, who practices appellate law and received the Pope Award in 2014. “Marcy Hogan Greer exemplifies those qualities. She combines exceptional advocacy with sound judgment, humility, and an unfailing respect for the legal system and everyone who participates in it. She has earned the admiration of lawyers and judges across the country not only because of her remarkable accomplishments, but because she conducts herself with grace, fairness, and unwavering integrity.”
Appellate attorney and 2019 Pope Award recipient Charles “Skip” Watson said of Greer, “She exemplifies the qualities Judge Pope exemplified. The superlatives all apply. Marcy is that rare combination of keen intelligence and the ability to express her insight in a way others understand. She is a tireless worker, yet she is unfailingly gracious and attentive to those seeking her help.” Watson added, “Simply put, she can brighten the room and rivet it with her words.”
“Marcy Greer consistently operates at the highest level of professionalism and integrity,” said appellate attorney and 2012 Pope Award recipient Kevin Dubose. “I have had the opportunity to observe her dealings with courts, opposing counsel, co-counsel, and lawyers and administrative team members within our firm. And in all of those dealings she is unfailingly driven by what is right, what is honest, and what is fair.”
The Pope Award will be presented to Greer at the annual Texas Supreme Court Historical Society John Hemphill Dinner on September 10, 2026, in Austin.
