Jonathan E. Smaby
Jonathan E. Smaby is the executive director of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. Prior to being selected as executive director, Mr. Smaby practiced law in Dallas, where he represented clients in a variety of legal matters, including business, litigation, employment, real estate and health law. He was also a longtime member of the Advertising Review Committee of the State Bar of Texas, including serving as its chair and vice chair. He is a frequent continuing legal education speaker, primarily on the topics of legal ethics, law office management and lawyer advertising. He is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Smaby is the co-author of the third edition of “Opening and Managing a Law Practice,” which is published by the Texas Center for Legal Ethics, and he previously consulted with lawyers and law firms on law office management.
He has also written numerous articles on both legal and political topics for a variety of publications, including the New York Times, Dallas Morning News, National Law Journal and Texas Lawyer. Mr. Smaby has extensive experience providing legal and political commentary for local radio and television stations, including previously serving as a regular political analyst for KDFW-TV in Dallas. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan Law School, and he is licensed to practice law in Texas and Minnesota.
